The sylvan folk, called dryads by the elven peoples, ‘Behsyl’ulbenoch’ by the kobolds, or sometimes falsely mistaken for fey nymphs by other folk. Spriggans are a rare, disparate lineage of uncertain origin which bears the unique distinction of being fully mobile floral beings.

= Origin Story =
According to the folklore of the spriggans, they were once the ‘drones’ of a trickster god remembered as the Briarheart. Crafted from the spore of a fern and possessing no free will of their own, they and other monstrous beings served as instruments in some long since passed war with another god, the horned one known as Behruun. Although the god of nature emerged victorious in this conflict, he took pity on the drones abandoned by the banished Briarheart. Upon them he laid three gifts:
Upon their souls he bestowed a spark of individuality, so they may walk their own path beyond the will of their creator.
Upon their bodies he bestowed the verdant green, making their once corrupted forms of thorn and root green and lush with foliage so they might feed on the sun’s light.
Upon their minds he bestowed mending dreams, so they might grow and disperse beyond the field of war.
The spriggans have since wandered the world, none who live today having memory of this fateful event despite their agelessness. No evidence of its passing, save for the shadows which linger in their dreams.

= Anatomy =
Though built with frames similar to many elves, the ageless spriggans often appear more alien due to their prominent plant features and entirely floral body. This floral appearance goes down to their core, complete with muscle-like vesicles which flood and flush with circulatory sap to move their body and thick sap which channels nervous signals through spindly veins. Though taller than many folk, ranging in the ranges of six to seven feet, their slowly grown wooden skeletons give them three fourths the weight of a humanoid of the same height.
Spriggans bear a wide variety of forms, many major floral features like hair of leaves, strangely placed features, branch formed horns, and so on sometimes complemented by more subtle bestial features. These latter traits can manifest as things like cloven, ungulate legs, lizard-like tails, or bovine ears (all still composed entirely of plant matter.) They possess smooth bodies without reproductive organs, requiring rarely grown seeds to reproduce on their own.
Their bizarre anatomy and floral existence grants them numerous quirks. Their bones are more suited to absorbing force, but less resistant to slashes then their mammalian counterparts. Their sap-suffused bodies, needed for both locomotion and sensation, are vulnerable to extreme but resilient to burns. Finally their green foliage makes them fully able to persist without food, so long as they have enough time to root and absorb sunlight.
o- Spriggans are made entirely of plant matter, bearing no “fleshy” attributes.
o- Features, whether floral or bestial in nature, do not grant benefits beyond what is available to open races such as kobolds.
o- Spriggans range from 5’8’’ to 7’4’’ and conform to a humanoid frame. Spriggans outside this range of shape require special LT permission.
o- Spriggans are more vulnerable to cuts (capable of easily disabling or severing a limb,) but find blunt force much less likely to break bone. Both of these factors are effectively neutralized if the area of the body struck is encased in dense armor, like plate.
o- Spriggans exposed to subzero natural cold for more than a few hours without warmth will find themselves entering a state of hibernation. Two emotes of magical frost exposure to a limb will disable that limb for the rest of combat, with six across their whole body enough to render them unconscious.
o- Burns are inflicted one degree less than normal when a spriggan is hydrated. While overly dry (within a desert of any variety) they instead suffer them one degree worse than normal.
o- Spriggans require an average of four hours of sunlight and two hours rooted per day to remain healthy. Conditions where they cannot meet this (such as prolonged periods underground for a few days) will slowly wither at their body. This is equivalent to starvation in open races.
o- A spriggan seed can only be produced once per ten irl weeks. Spriggans have no reproductive organs, private areas, biological sex, etc.

Dreamroot
Said to be a gift from their blessing, spriggans are capable of rooting themselves into the earth to restore their bodies, even capable of further entering seemingly prophetic visions tied to their own psyche. It is said they can sometimes grace their dark origins in these dreams, a manifestation of their ties to the briar.
Over the course of [3] emotes while in combat, a spriggan can morph their legs into roots and dig into the ground, the rest of their bodies taking on even more prominent floral characteristics. While in this state they can spend two narrative hours to recover if rooted in properly fertile soil, sustaining them nutritionally and regrowing wounded parts of their body. They may choose to enter a slumber while in this state, such sleep always accompanied by vivid dreams or more rarely nightmares. Combatively, this state only prevents them from being moved by most sources against their will, or willingly moving from their position while rooted. It takes [2] emotes to de-root oneself in combat.
o- Lost body parts can be regrown, though things such as diseases, curses, and so on are not healed by this process.
o- These dreams seem prophetic to spriggan, but are more related to their own mental state. They cannot be used to metagame knowledge the spriggan does not already know.
o- Spriggans with dark magic will experience nightmares far more often, supplanting the regular dreams.
Prune
Their verdant forms blessed with innumerable possibilities, spriggans can manipulate or permanently change aspects of their body in pursuit of finding their true self.
At will, a spriggan can perform temporary changes or manipulations of their body, such as causing leaves to rustle, veins to glow, eyes to shift in color, or digits to reshape. With [3] emotes, salves or saps of plants with desired characteristics, and a flexible ritual a spriggan can permanently alter aspects of their body.
o- Manipulations and changes cannot harm or help others, being purely cosmetic.
o- Floral or simpler features like leaves, skin coloration, horn shape, and their general apparent masculinity or femininity can be altered permanently. More core features like leg shape, the existence of a tail, or recognizable facial features cannot be changed.
o- While pruning is used without salves or saps, it instead returns the spriggan to whatever features they were born with.
Weave
A spriggan is capable of extending their floral manipulations beyond themselves, manipulating floral materials which they link to themselves into various unique shapes.
A spriggan can draw sap to their skin at will, and suffuse it into dead floral material in order to manipulate it, such as causing leaves to dance around or change color in a harmless way. With [3] emotes of effort, they can instead cause this floral material to morph into a permanent, verdant form which mimics some common material.
o- Manipulations are harmless and unbeneficial beyond artistic display
o- Morphed equipment possesses traits identical to some other freely available material, such as basic metals, rocks, or clothes. It is essentially a cosmetic variation of those items that needs to be watered occasionally.
o- Created items cannot exceed the size of something someone can hold or wear outside non-combat building. Temporarily manipulated material cannot extend beyond 5 blocks in diameter.
