The Hospitable
Sapgleam Ant
Very Common (Sheer Numbers) || Uncommon (Hive Frequency)
In the largest of trees or largest caverns live colonies of sapgleam ants, creatures ranging between one to eight feet long which live in truly frighteningly immense numbers. They possess many forms, with workers being smaller with larger abdomens and warriors having massive heads with strong fangs that can cut through metal chain. They never live too far from forests, as they rely entirely on the sap from trees to survive, and yet their incessant hunger will often leave large swaths of forest damaged horrendously. They turn the sap they consume into a glowing pheromone stored within their abdomen, which is then used for communication or weaponized as a blisteringly painful acid that can be shot out from their ends. Queens of the colony are much larger, horse sized and winged when born, and elephant sized with long, bulbous abdomen when adults. The birthing season of these ants if feared by any who live by a hive, as for a day and night these horse sized fliers will surge across the sky, wreaking havoc in countless numbers as they search for a place to colonize. Fengorger
Uncommon
A fierce arboreal monster, the fengorger appears like a large, eyeless lizard with three sets of legs. Each leg is connected by leathery skin which they can use to glide despite their wolf to horse sized bodies. As they rely entirely on their ability to sense heat, they have drab coloration of tans, browns, and olive shades. Fengorgers are equipped with a powerful bite force capable of cutting into plate, and a long spiky tail which can crack loudly into things behind themselves. All fengorgers do not mate with others, producing eggs on their own accord and violently fighting to the death with any of their kin that wanders within their territory. Fiendskin
Uncommon
Less numerous though equally feared as its giant ant cousins, the fiendskin is a species of wasp of dog size that is covered in a horrid, skin-like hide that is impervious to burns. The fiendskin is a vindictive, merciless creature which will endlessly pursue any that threaten it, flying on glassy wings for days on end to make up for its somewhat slow speed. These creatures prefer to make their hives, formed from the flesh of victims they did not eat, in cold, ashy forests frequented by eruptions or forest fires. A large number of wasps can beat their wings to gather clouds of ash or snow about them, shrouding their movements and numbers. Each is equipped with long grasping legs capable of lifting a man in armor several feet off the ground, and long fangs capable of severing unarmored limbs from their body. Most feared are their glowing hot stingers made of some strange biologically formed metal, which can stab through plate and burn like white-hot metal pressed against flesh. The internal body temperature of the fiendskins lets them survive in cold climates, burning hot enough to nearly boil water on contact. The larvae of fiendskins only hatch in warm corpses. Mantrap Orchid
Common
Also called mortarblooms, or logger’s bane, the mantrap orchid is a species of large flower which forms symbiotic relationship with fruitless trees. Its vines draw sustenance from the tree itself, white its many fanged blooms will ambush or ward off herbivores and loggers alike who attempt to take from its bough. These plants can be extensively large, bearing multiple boulder-sized blooms. Despite these large, mouth-like blooms, the mantraps are not reliant on flesh for food and so often do not bother unless they have lost a significant number of heads, or their host tree. The plants will not fall dead unless each head is severed from its vines, a difficult feat as along with their feet they are capable of spewing bolts of noxious acid brewed deep in their hollow stems. The acid they produce from their blooms is a form of horrible smelling nectar which burns horribly against flesh, yielding even third degree burns after a few seconds of exposure. The fangs they sport are not fangs at all, instead repurposed, iron-hard petals. Mantraps can also manipulate their vines, not capable of particularly wounding creatures but easily able to bind and restrict movement as to score spits upon victims. Sapite
Uncommon
These creatures are docile, chirping, mobile fungi. The sapite is a humanoid creature of tiny size, between the size of a thumb and a pumpkin, which can appear like any known fungi. These creatures are not all that intelligent, but enjoy collecting whatever they can carry or drag to their home. These critters form small hives under larger species of mushrooms, using those places's toxic properties to ward off predators. Sapites are not poisonous themselves, and they unfortunately actually have a very delicious earth taste for any heartless enough to try. Sapites can be domesticated. Quickgem
Uncommon
Caustic, massive ameba-like creatures, the quick gem is a species of arboreal slime which can launch itself from tree to tree with surprising grace. These creatures have no internal organs save for a small patch of squishy, darker fluid which renders the creature dead if cut from the body, though cutting this fluid in half will instead result in two smaller oozes. Each ooze can reach the size of an elephant, though larger than a bear makes it too heavy to leap, and often results in them starving to death or splitting up long before reaching their maximum size. These oozes get their name from their gemlike appearance, coming in a dazzling array of colors. Mere exposure to the ooze can cause burns, and so most are thankful that the ooze prefers dark, moist areas. They can be easily warded by bright light, and anything as cold as ice will cause affected portions of body to freeze and die. These creatures do not mate, instead getting as large as they can before hiding beneath the ground and slowly splitting up across the winter season. Cloudhare
Rare
Elusive, erratic, and mischievous, the cloudhare is a cat-sized creature which appears like a hare with a long, billowy tail and a thin, pointed horn as hard as steel. These lagomorphs are rarely seen when they wish to go unseen, and many folk tales expose that catching sight of one is either a sign of good luck or immense misfortune. Notably under the light of the full moon, or the bright starlight of winter, the soft wool that clads their body glows softly. Cloudhares, while not fae, possess a small quantity of arcane magic which they can use to shrink objects. This can include people should they be threatened or when they feel sufficiently impish. This charm lasts for a limited time, up to a month at most. Domesticated hares lose this magical quality, their horns becoming brittle and softer like bone. Cloudhares can be domesticated.
